Dreams (Japanese: 夢, Yume) is an eight-part Japanese-American anthology film that Akira Kurosawa both directed and wrote alone, drawing on recurring dreams he had experienced throughout his life. Made in 1990 with financing from Warner Bros. and assistance from George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, it arrived five years after Ran. The 119-minute film screened out of competition at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival and explores themes of childhood, spirituality, art, death, and humanity's transgressions against nature.
