Fatal Symphony

Fatal Symphony (original title Sinfonia fatale) is an Italian war melodrama directed by Victor Stoloff, who co-wrote the screenplay with Oreste Biancoli; sources cite both 1946 and 1947 as its year. Produced by Scalera Film, it was shot at the company's Scalera Studios in Rome, with sets designed by art directors Ottavio Scotti and Vittorio Valentini.

The story unfolds in Rome on the eve of World War II: an American composer separated from his wife settles in Italy and falls in love with a young woman from the countryside, so the personal romance becomes entwined with the tensions of a Europe on the brink of war. Douglass Montgomery, Marina Berti and Sarah Churchill star, alongside Tullio Carminati, Carlo Romano, Claudio Gora, Pina Piovani and Guido Celano. The film was screened at the Lugano Festival, where it received a prize.
