Jerichow
Jerichow is a 2008 German drama written and directed by Christian Petzold, loosely inspired by James M. Cain's novel The Postman Always Rings Twice. Set in the emptied landscapes of north-eastern Germany near the Baltic, it follows Thomas, a discharged Afghanistan veteran, who goes to work for Ali, a Turkish-German businessman running a chain of snack bars. Thomas soon becomes entangled with Ali's wife Laura, and their affair drives the trio toward a tense reckoning. Hilmi Sözer plays Ali, opposite Benno Fürmann and Nina Hoss. The film premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival and earned German Film Prize nominations.
