Leblebici Horhor Ağa

Leblebici Horhor Ağa is an unfinished Turkish production whose shooting began in 1916, and it figures in debates over which work deserves the title of the country's first narrative film. Its story was adapted for the screen from an operetta of the same name composed by Dikran Çuhacıyan together with Tekfor Nalyan.

Filming got underway under Sigmund Weinberg's direction, yet the death of one of the principal performers brought production to a permanent halt. The ensemble was drawn from the artists of the Milli Operet Kumpanyası, while the Merkez Ordu Sinema Dairesi acted as producer.

Although Fuat Uzkınay is officially credited as director, historian Nijat Özön maintained that Uzkınay never set foot on the set. The honor of being the first Turkish film remains contested between this picture and Himmet Ağa'nın İzdivacı.
