Mr. Muhsin (Muhsin Bey)

Muhsin Bey (Mr. Muhsin) is a 1987 Turkish drama and comedy film written and directed by Yavuz Turgul and produced by Sinefekt. Starring Şener Şen and Uğur Yücel, it follows a solitary middle-aged music organizer devoted to classical Turkish music and the 78-rpm records of Safiye Ayla and Müzeyyen Senar, while firmly opposed to arabesque. When Ali Nazik, a naive young man from Urfa who dreams of becoming a famous folk singer, asks for his help, Muhsin reluctantly takes him under his wing — but he ends up in prison for fraud while his protégé rises to stardom.

Set against a Beyoğlu music scene reshaped by rural-to-urban migration, the film competed at the 24th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, winning Best Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay, and received a Special Jury Prize at the 6th International Istanbul Film Festival. It was also voted one of the ten best Turkish films of all time by the Ankara Cinema Association and is widely regarded as a masterpiece of Turkish cinema.
