Nymphomaniac: Volume II

Nymphomaniac: Volume II is the second half of Lars von Trier's two-part Nymphomaniac project, which he also wrote. Completed in 2013 and released in 2014, the Danish-German-French co-production is in English and continues the story directly from the first volume.

Seligman, who found Joe beaten in an alley, keeps listening as she recounts the rest of her life. This part covers her adult years: her reunion with Jerôme and the family they build, the collapse of that relationship as her compulsive desire grows, the sadomasochistic sessions she seeks out with an enigmatic man called K, and her subsequent descent into the brutal world of debt collection. Her long nighttime confession to Seligman ends with an unexpected final confrontation.

Charlotte Gainsbourg leads the cast alongside Stellan Skarsgård, Stacy Martin, Shia LaBeouf and Jamie Bell; Udo Kier and Jean-Marc Barr also appear. Blending drama with dark humor and explicit eroticism, the film completes von Trier's portrait of a woman confronting her own nature.
