Pact with the Devil

Pact with the Devil (Italian: Patto col diavolo) is a 1950 Italian melodrama directed by Luigi Chiarini. The story draws on a subject by Corrado Alvaro, with the screenplay credited to Alvaro, Chiarini and Sergio Amidei. The picture belongs to the sentimental melodrama current then highly popular with Italian audiences, commonly known as "strappalacrime" (tear-jerkers) and later relabelled "appendix neorealism".

Produced by Ente Nazionale Industrie Cinematografiche, the film was shot largely on real locations in Calabria, in the south of Italy, whose rugged landscape lends the narrative a strong provincial atmosphere.

Isa Miranda, Jacques François and Eduardo Ciannelli take the leading roles, while the supporting company includes Guido Celano, Umberto Spadaro, Ave Ninchi and Anne Vernon.
