Promise at Dawn

Promise at Dawn (La Promesse de l'aube) is a 1970 Franco-American drama film directed by Jules Dassin and starring his wife Melina Mercouri. The film is adapted from Romain Gary's 1960 memoir of the same name and the stage play Samuel A. Taylor drew from it, with the screenplay written by Dassin and Taylor together.

The story follows a former movie star who gives up her career to devote herself to her young son, sacrificing her own happiness so that he can grow into an independent man. Running about 99 minutes, the film also features Assaf Dayan, Charles Millot and Rufus alongside Mercouri.
