The Yellow Rolls-Royce (Sarı Otomobil)

The Yellow Rolls-Royce is a 1964 British anthology drama directed by Anthony Asquith, written by Terence Rattigan and produced by Anatole de Grunwald — the same trio behind The V.I.P.s (1963). A vintage yellow-and-black Rolls-Royce Phantom II connects three self-contained tales, each centred on a different person who comes to own the car: an English aristocrat, a Miami gangster and a wealthy American widow. The stories span the years leading up to the outbreak of the Second World War. The picture is said to borrow its premise from In Those Days, a 1947 German drama by Helmut Käutner. Its ensemble gathers major stars of the period — Rex Harrison, Ingrid Bergman, Shirley MacLaine, Jeanne Moreau, Omar Sharif, George C. Scott and Alain Delon — with the principal performers each confined to a single episode. Riz Ortolani's "Forget Domani", composed for the soundtrack, took the Best Original Song prize at the 23rd Golden Globe Awards.
