The Black Corsair

The Black Corsair (original title: Il corsaro nero) is a 1937 Italian adventure and pirate film written and directed by Amleto Palermi. The production is an adaptation of the 1898 novel of the same name by Emilio Salgari, one of the leading authors of Italian popular literature. Ciro Verratti, Silvana Jachino and Ada Biagini star, while the supporting cast includes Guido Celano, Nerio Bernardi, Cesco Baseggio and Fausto Guerzoni.

Shot in Italian and running 96 minutes, the film is regarded as an example of the appetite for popular literary adaptations in interwar Italian cinema. It is remembered among the earliest screen adaptations of Salgari's famous corsair character, combining the conventions of the adventure and pirate genres.
