The Grand Day
The Grand Day (Persian: Ruz-e Bâshekuh) is an Iranian comedy film from 1989 directed by Kyanoush Ayari. The script was a joint effort by Dariush Mo'addabian, Farid Mostafavi and Abolhassan Davoudi. Completed in the Iranian calendar year 1367, the picture opened in Iranian cinemas on 15 Azar 1368, corresponding to December 1989. It attracted sizeable audiences during its theatrical run and ended the year in third place on the domestic box-office chart, making it one of the most watched releases of that season. Shot in Persian, the film features Hassan Rezaei and Mehri Mehrnia in a cast that also includes familiar figures of Iranian cinema such as Ali Nassirian, Jamshid Hashempour, Iraj Tahmasb and Gohar Kheirandish. The production is remembered as a notable example of the popular comedies that flourished in Iran during the post-war years.
