The Pharaohs' Woman

“The Pharaohs' Woman” (original title: La donna dei faraoni, released in France as La Princesse du Nil) is a 1960 Italian sword-and-sandal film. Directed by Viktor Turžanskij (Victor Tourjansky), written by Ugo Liberatore and scored by Giovanni Fusco, it holds a notable place in film history as the first feature shot in the Techniscope format.

The story unfolds in the 31st century BCE, shortly after the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. When the nobleman Amosis arranges a Nile journey to settle a rivalry between Ramses, prince of Thebes, and his cousin Sabaku, the travellers encounter a young woman named Akis, who becomes the prize in a game of dice. The ensuing events drive her toward revenge, while the power struggle between the old dynasty and the new rulers frames a love story. The cast includes John Drew Barrymore, Linda Cristal, Pierre Brice and Armando Francioli.
