Uğur Demirkol — Biography

Uğur Demirkol was born on 16 January 1990 in Berlin and began playing football at age five with the Berlin club FC Brandenburg 03. He moved to Tennis Borussia Berlin in 1999 and then, in 2003, into the youth academy of the city's leading club, Hertha Berlin, with whom he won a regional youth title in the 2005-06 season before losing in the German championship semifinal to Borussia Dortmund's youth side.

Returning to Turkey in January 2007, he joined Ankaraspor and made his Süper Lig debut against Ankaragücü that August, setting up a goal in the match. He became a regular first-team player in the 2008-09 season, scored his first goal in a Turkish Cup tie against Altay, and helped the club reach the cup semifinal. A change of coach and the club's relegation by federation ruling left him without regular football for a long stretch; a 2010 move to MKE Ankaragücü brought little playing time. In 2011 he returned to Germany, turning out for the reserve sides of SC Freiburg and SV Waldhof Mannheim and then for 1. FC Union Berlin's second team, a period repeatedly interrupted by injuries.

He returned to Turkey again for the 2013-14 season with newly promoted Süper Lig side Kayseri Erciyesspor before being loaned mid-season to TFF First League club Şanlıurfaspor. Across his national-team career he was capped 46 times at levels from under-16 to under-19, taking part in tournaments such as the Aegean Cup and the Black Sea Games, where his sides finished second and third.
