Ümit Özat — Biography
Ali Ümit Özat (born 30 October 1976 in Ankara) is a former Turkey international footballer who became a manager and television pundit. Standing 1.86 m, he is not described identically everywhere: Turkish and French Wikipedia call him a left-back, while the Spanish and Russian editions present him as a versatile defender who could also play centre-back or defensive midfield.
The high point of his playing career came with the national team — Russian Wikipedia records him as part of the generation that took bronze at the 2002 World Cup — and at club level he won the Turkish championship three times.
After retiring he moved into coaching, and Google's Knowledge Graph and Wikipedia now describe him first and foremost as a football manager. In recent years he has been most visible as a commentator: throughout 2026 his remarks on Fenerbahçe, the Turkey national team and the Süper Lig were reported regularly by the Turkish sports press.
