Volkan Demirel — Biography

Born on 27 October 1981 in Istanbul, Volkan Demirel is a former Turkish international goalkeeper who later moved into coaching. He began his playing career at Kartalspor in 2000 before transferring to Fenerbahçe two years later, where he collected five Süper Lig titles, two Turkish Cups, and three Super Cups. Called up to the national team in 2004, he served as Turkey's first-choice goalkeeper during the run to the semi-finals of the 2008 European Championship.

After retiring as a player on 2 September 2019, Demirel worked as an assistant coach at Fenerbahçe until 2021, then took charge of Fatih Karagümrük in December of that year, leaving the club in 2022. He was appointed head coach of Hatayspor in September 2022 and resigned from that post in May 2024. He subsequently managed Gençlerbirliği, a spell that came to an end when he departed the club in May 2026.
