Yeşim Ustaoğlu — Biography
Yeşim Ustaoğlu (born 18 November 1960 in Sarıkamış, Kars) is a Turkish film director, screenwriter and producer.
She studied architecture at Karadeniz Technical University and entered cinema through short films; "Bir Anı Yakalamak" (1988), "Magnafantagna" (1989), "Düet" (1990) and "Otel" (1992) won awards at various festivals. Her first feature, "İz" (1994), was named best film at the Istanbul and Cologne film festivals.
"Güneşe Yolculuk" (1999) brought her numerous national and international honours, including the Blue Angel at the Berlin Film Festival. She founded the production company Ustaoğlu Film in 2003, and "Bulutları Beklerken" (2004) won the best screenplay award at the Sundance Film Festival. After "Pandora’nın Kutusu" (2008), "Araf" (2012) and "Tereddüt" (2016), she returned in 2026 with the feature "Artakalan" and the documentary "Kuru Taşın Başı".
