Ziya Doğan — Biography
Born Ziyaeddin Doğan on 17 December 1961 in Gümüşhane, Ziya Doğan came through Beşiktaş's youth system and reached the first team in 1978. Known for his combative style as a midfielder, he scored both goals in the final match of the 1982 season against Eskişehirspor, delivering Beşiktaş a long-awaited league title, and is also remembered for the winning goal in a 4-2 extra-time Turkish Cup victory over Fenerbahçe. Despite playing in midfield he was unusually prolific, scoring 38 goals in 194 league matches for Beşiktaş across nine seasons. He later played for MKE Ankaragücü from 1987, Kocaelispor from 1990, and finished his career at Zeytinburnuspor, earning three caps for Turkey's under-19 side along the way.
He moved into coaching afterward, managing İstanbulspor, Adanaspor, Malatyaspor, Gençlerbirliği and, across two spells, Trabzonspor, with whom he won the Turkish Cup and finished the league runner-up to qualify for the Champions League. He went on to manage Diyarbakırspor, Konyaspor, MKE Ankaragücü, Orduspor and Kastamonuspor 1966. As of 2026 he remains active in Turkish football media, offering commentary for outlets such as 61Saat on topics including Trabzonspor's title chances and the national team's form.
