Ceyda Torun — Biography

Turkish-born documentary director and assistant director Ceyda Torun was born in Istanbul and moved with her family to Amman, Jordan, at the age of eleven. She later moved to the United States to finish high school and studied anthropology at Boston University.

After graduating, Torun returned to Turkey and worked alongside director Reha Erdem before settling once again in the United States, where she co-founded the production company Termite Films with her husband, cinematographer Charlie Wuppermann. Her best-known work is "Kedi," a 2016 documentary about the street cats of Istanbul.

"Kedi" became one of the most-watched Turkish films ever released in the United States, was named to Time magazine's list of the year's ten best films, and won an award at the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards.
