Cat (Kedi) (translated)

Kedi is a 2016 Turkish documentary directed by Ceyda Torun about the stray cats that roam the streets of Istanbul. Following these animals through the accounts of the neighborhood residents who care for them, the film stands out for its natural footage, shot without any interference, as Torun observed the cats as a mere third eye. The crew used a special camera rig to film at the cats' own eye level.

The film premiered at the !f Istanbul Independent Film Festival on 21 February 2016, and was later screened at the Seattle, Melbourne and Vancouver film festivals before its North American theatrical release on 10 February 2017. Met with critical acclaim, it grossed over $5 million and was named one of the top ten films of 2017 by Time magazine.
