Çolak Amerikyan — Biography

Çolak Amerikyan (born Galust Kerobovich Suluikian; 23 September 1887, Trabzon – 17 September 1964, in what was then Leninakan, present-day Gyumri) was an ethnic Armenian actor who worked in Soviet cinema. He was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the Armenian SSR in 1947 and appeared in a number of Soviet productions between 1938 and 1962.

His career began with Zangezur (1938) and continued with North Rainbow (1960) and a grandfather role in Mother’s Heart. His most notable performance came in the 1962 film Rings of Glory (Parqi Oghakner), the first feature film shot in Western Armenian, in which he played the lead role of Nikoğos Ağa in a story set in the life of Erzurum.
