Demir Demirkan — Biography

Demir Demirkan was born on 12 August 1972 in Adana; after schooling in Ankara and İzmir, he studied English Language and Literature at Bilkent University, where in 1990 he joined the metal band Pentagram as guitarist before studying music at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles.

Back in Istanbul in 1996, he produced Şebnem Ferah's album Kadın and Sertab Erener's Sertab Gibi, then left Pentagram in 1999 to pursue a solo career, releasing his debut album in 2000. In 2002 he starred in Show TV's series 5'i Bir Yerde and wrote its music. In 2003, "Everyway That I Can," which he wrote and composed with Sertab Erener, won the Eurovision Song Contest for Turkey; he won a SİYAD award for the score of Cars of the Revolution in 2009 and rejoined Pentagram in 2017 for the band's thirtieth anniversary.

After an 18-year relationship, he split from Sertab Erener in 2014 and married his high-school sweetheart Seda İnce in Paris in 2015; the couple's son Atlas was born in 2016. He lived in the United States from 2016 to 2025 and now lives in Portugal. He published his debut novel, Zamanda Saklı, in 2024, followed by an album of the same name in 2026.
