Erdal Merdan — Biography
Erdal Merdan was born on 8 April 1949 in Kayseri. After settling in Germany in 1969, he became one of the leading Turkish-German figures in theatre, radio, film and television, working as a playwright, stage director and actor.
He played the character "Arkan" in the 1975 episode "Tod im U-Bahnschacht" of the long-running German crime series Tatort, but he is best remembered for his role in the 1990 film Journey of Hope, which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Erdal Merdan died on 24 March 2010 in Brannenburg, Bavaria.
