Hadise — Biography

Hadise Açıkgöz was born on 22 October 1985 in Mol, near Antwerp, Belgium, into a family of Kumyk and Lezgin descent that had emigrated from Sivas, Turkey. In 2003 she entered the Belgian talent show Idool; although she failed to reach the final, her performance earned her a record deal. She released her debut single Sweat in 2004 and the album of the same name in 2005; songs such as Stir Me Up and Milk Chocolate Girl brought her fame in both Belgium and Turkey, winning her a TMF Award in Belgium and a Golden Butterfly in Turkey.

Her self-titled second album arrived in 2008, mixing English and Turkish material; Deli Oğlan, adapted into Turkish by Sezen Aksu, became a major hit in Turkey. In 2009 she represented Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow with Düm Tek Tek, taking fourth place with 177 points, while the song topped the Belgian charts. That same year she released Fast Life and her first Turkish-language album Kahraman, whose lead single Evlenmeliyiz also climbed the charts. She followed with Aşk Kaç Beden Giyer? (2011), Tavsiye (2014) and Şampiyon (2017).

Beyond music, she presented the Belgian version of The X Factor and served as a judge on O Ses Türkiye from 2011 to 2020. Her many honours include Golden Butterfly, MTV and TMF awards.
