İstemi Betil — Biography

İstemi Betil was born on 21 December 1943 in Istanbul and became known across film, theatre, television, and voice acting over the course of a long career. Although he appeared in numerous movies, series, and TV films, he is best remembered for playing "Laz Ziya" in the television series Kurtlar Vadisi (Valley of the Wolves). His screen career began early, including a role in the 1972 film Alın Yazısı.

Betil was also a prolific voice actor, lending his Turkish dubbing voice to Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as to roles played by international stars such as Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn. He died on 11 November 2011 in Yalova.
