Kamel le Magicien — Biography

Kamel Boutayeb, known on stage as Kamel le Magicien, is a prestidigitator and presenter from Livry-Gargan in Seine-Saint-Denis who brought street magic to French television. He made his name with open-air shows on Canal+, and later widened his profile with documentaries, a live-show recording and entertainment competitions.

From 2010 to 2013 he presented a Canal+ programme in which he performed for the public in the streets every day, and he co-produced those shows. In the same period he also appeared on the big screen in the 2011 film Beur sur la ville, playing the baker on the roof. In 2013 he made the documentary Kamel à Las Vegas, meeting well-known American magicians; for its sequel Kamel à Tôkyô he teamed up with actor Steve Tran to seek out famous Japanese magicians.

For Canal+'s thirtieth anniversary he made a show in which he performed tricks on channel hosts such as Ophélie Meunier, Maïtena Biraben and Antoine de Caunes. On 27 October 2015 a DVD, Kamel le Magicien en live, recorded at the Casino de Paris under Richard Valverde, was released. In autumn 2016 he took part in the seventh season of TF1's Danse avec les stars with dancer Emmanuelle Berne and finished tenth.
