Manuela Vellés — Biography

Manuela Vellés Casariego was born on 16 January 1987 in Madrid into a family of architects and designers. She trained as a stage actress at the school run by Argentine director Juan Carlos Corazza, continuing her studies with Jorge Eines and Augusto Fernandes before attending an acting school in London in 2010. While still a student she was chosen by Julio Medem to lead his 2007 film Caótica Ana, which launched her career. On television she played Helena across three seasons of Hispania, la leyenda, took the role of Luisa Rivas in Velvet, and later appeared as Carolina Bravo in El Ministerio del Tiempo. Her film credits include Javier Fesser's Camino, Paula Ortiz's The Bride, and Jaume Balagueró's Muse, and Turkish viewers found her on Netflix through La influencia, released locally as Etki. On stage she performed in an adaptation of Tirso de Molina's The Trickster of Seville and in Punk&Love. Beyond acting, Vellés writes and performs her own songs on guitar, releasing her debut album Subo, bajo in 2018, and was nominated for a Mestre Mateo award for her role in Retornos.
