The Bride (La novia)
Paula Ortiz directed The Bride, known in Spanish as La novia, a 2015 drama. A Spanish-language co-production between Spain, Germany and Turkey, it blends drama and romance and runs 93 minutes. It is Ortiz's second feature after De tu ventana a la mía (2011). She wrote the screenplay as a free adaptation of Federico García Lorca's 1933 tragedy Bodas de sangre (Blood Wedding), which is why Lorca shares the writing credit. It opened in Spain on 11 December 2015.
Inma Cuesta, Álex García and Asier Etxeandía lead the cast, joined by Leticia Dolera, Carlos Álvarez-Nóvoa, Ana Fernández, Manuela Vellés, Mariana Cordero and Verónika Moral.
The film screened in the Zabaltegi section of the 2015 San Sebastián International Film Festival and earned twelve Goya nominations, among them best film, best director, best actor and best actress. It was one of three titles that could have become Spain's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar at the 89th Academy Awards, but it was not chosen.
