Metin Çekmez — Biography
In 1962 Metin Çekmez auditioned for the İstanbul Şehir Tiyatroları alongside his older brother Dinçer; chosen among 350 hopefuls by Muhsin Ertuğrul's company, the two brothers first appeared on stage as extras playing sailors in Hamlet. He then spent two years studying journalism before developing his craft through years of apprenticeship and joining the theatre's regular company in 1970.
He moved into film in 1972 with a part in Ertem Eğilmez's Tatlı Dillim, going on to appear in dozens of films and series; he became widely recognised for playing Cevdet in Süper Baba, Rıza Yılmaz in the series Adını Feriha Koydum, and Burhan Evliyaoğlu in the series 1001 Nights, later taking the role of Ziya Yörükhan in Kaderimin Yazıldığı Gün toward the end of his career.
Following the death of his brother and fellow actor Dinçer in 2013, Metin Çekmez died of tongue-root cancer in Aydın on 25 August 2021 and was laid to rest at the Kuşadası Davutlar Cemetery.
