Born Sonja Eady, she grew up in a family with six brothers, took an early interest in theatre and dance, and first appeared on stage at eleven. After studying French, Spanish and German language and literature she settled in Turkey in 1974; on marrying the actor Kayhan Yıldızoğlu she took his surname and Turkish citizenship. In 1977 she entered cinema opposite Cüneyt Arkın in Yıkılmayan Adam, and the same year appeared in Kan. In these years she also worked in photo-novels and commercials, began performing on stage as a singer in 1978 and recorded singles, and at the 1981 Golden Orpheus contest she won the Jury Special Award and the Journalists Award.
In 2000 she moved to Australia for her children's schooling and went into business there with a company she founded. About seven years later she returned and went back to acting, in productions such as Geniş Aile and 46 Yok Olan.
