Man (Adam) (translated)

Adam is a 2019 drama film directed by Maryam Touzani, produced as a Moroccan, French and Belgian co-production and shot in Moroccan Arabic. Written by Touzani together with Nabil Ayouch, it premiered on 20 May 2019 in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. It was later chosen as Morocco's official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, though it did not receive a nomination. The film reached German cinemas on 9 December 2021.

Set in Casablanca, the story follows Abla, a widowed baker who lives with her eight-year-old daughter Warda and runs a modest bakery. Her life changes when Samia, a young woman pregnant out of wedlock and searching for work and shelter, knocks on her door and is taken in. The bond that grows between these two very different women under one roof becomes a quiet solidarity in the face of social pressure. Lubna Azabal stars as Abla and Nisrin Erradi as Samia, with Douae Belkhaouda and Aziz Hattab also in the cast.
