Love Story (Aşk Hikâyesi) (translated)

Love Story (Aşk Hikâyesi) is a 1971 Turkish romantic drama written and directed by Nejat Saydam and produced by Acar Film. It is a loose adaptation of the 1970 American film Love Story.

The story follows Taner Silahçıoğlu, the son of a wealthy businessman, and Gül Şeker, a young woman from a poor family. Taner studies at the school his father owns and plays for a football club; he falls for Gül, who works in the school library. When his family refuses to accept the relationship, Taner leaves home and marries Gül. Just as the young couple begins to overcome their financial hardship, they learn that Gül suffers from a fatal illness.

Deniz Gökçer and Salih Güney star in the leading roles, supported by performers such as Münir Özkul, Yıldırım Önal and Nedret Güvenç. The music is by Francis Lai and the cinematography by Melih Sertesen.
