Dangal

Written and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the 2016 Indian film Dangal takes its title from the Hindi term for a wrestling bout and is based on the true story of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. After his own dream of winning a medal for India is cut short, Phogat discovers wrestling talent in his eldest daughters Geeta and Babita and begins training them through a demanding regimen. Aamir Khan both stars in the lead role and co-produces the film, whose music was composed by Pritam.

The story follows Geeta's path to gold and Babita's to silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, while exploring the tension between father and daughters and the social pressure faced by female athletes. A major box-office success worldwide — especially in China, where it broke records — the film won four awards at the 62nd Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor for Khan.
