Aamir Khan — Biography
Aamir Khan was born on 14 March 1965 in Bombay (Mumbai), India, into a family already established in the film industry, with a producer father and a director uncle.
He first appeared on screen as a child actor in his uncle Nasir Hussain's film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973), returned as an adult in Holi (1984), and achieved his breakthrough in cousin Mansoor Khan's Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He went on to win his first Filmfare Best Actor award for Raja Hindustani in 1996.
In 2001 he founded his own production company and both produced and starred in the Oscar-nominated Lagaan, later making his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par (2007). Khan went on to headline some of Bollywood's highest-grossing films, including Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3, PK and Dangal, and became known for tackling social issues through his television show Satyamev Jayate; he has been honoured by the Indian government with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards.
