Rang De Basanti
"Rang De Basanti" (2006), written and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, is an Indian coming-of-age drama blending Hindi, Punjabi, and English. Rensil D'Silva and Prasoon Joshi contributed to the screenplay, while A. R. Rahman composed the music. Aamir Khan leads an ensemble cast that includes Siddharth, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, and British actress Alice Patten, with R. Madhavan appearing in a guest role.
The story follows Sue, a British film student who travels to India to document five revolutionaries of the independence movement. She casts five carefree young men in her project, and portraying the historical figures gradually awakens their own idealism. When the death of a close friend exposes corruption, they are driven to confront the injustices of their present-day government.
Shot primarily in New Delhi and released worldwide on 26 January 2006, the film broke India's opening box office records, won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film and the Filmfare Award for Best Film, earned a BAFTA nomination, and was submitted as India's entry for the Academy Awards.
