Bombay Talkies

Bombay Talkies is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language anthology film created to celebrate the centenary of Indian cinema. Made up of four short films of roughly twenty minutes each, its title pays homage to the legendary Bombay Talkies studio of the 1930s. The film was released on 3 May 2013 and screened out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival on 17 May that year.

The four segments were directed by Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap, weaving together themes of love, ambition, sexual identity and personal struggle alongside an affection for classic Indian cinema. Produced by Viacom18 Studios, the film features music composed by Amit Trivedi and a special song choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant with a host of Bollywood stars. Its cast includes Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Katrina Kaif. The same four directors later reunited for Lust Stories (2018) and Ghost Stories (2020), both released on Netflix.
