Ghulam

"Ghulam" (translated as "Slave") is a 1998 Indian Hindi-language action-drama film directed by Vikram Bhatt. Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji play the lead roles, supported by Deepak Tijori, Sharat Saxena, Rajit Kapur and Mita Vashisht. Written by Anjum Rajabali with music by Jatin–Lalit, the film's storyline draws on a tradition of inspiration tracing back to Elia Kazan's 1954 classic "On the Waterfront" — itself rooted in Malcolm Johnson's newspaper articles on waterfront crime.

Released on 19 June 1998, the film proved a commercial success at the box office. At the 44th Filmfare Awards it earned six nominations, including Best Film, Best Director for Bhatt and Best Actor for Khan, and took home the Best Scene of the Year award. The film was later remade in Tamil in 2000 under the title "Sudhandhiram."
