Dying of the Light

Written and directed by Paul Schrader, the 2014 American spy thriller Dying of the Light centers on Evan Lake, a former CIA agent diagnosed with dementia. When Lake learns that Muhammad Banir, the terrorist who tortured him two decades earlier and was long presumed dead, has resurfaced, he embarks on an unsanctioned hunt for revenge alongside his young colleague Milton Schultz, while his illness steadily erodes his memory and judgment and makes the pursuit ever more perilous.

Nicolas Cage and Anton Yelchin lead the cast, which also features Irène Jacob and Alexander Karim. Produced by Red Granite Pictures, the film was released theatrically and on VOD by Lionsgate on December 5, 2014, to largely negative reviews. Denied final-cut privilege, Schrader and his principal cast publicly disowned the studio's heavily reedited version of the film.
