Strike (Grev)

Strike is a 2021 feature film directed and written by Metin Yeğin. Set in Bursa in 1910, it follows women workers in silk factories who, forced to endure long hours under harsh conditions for meagre pay, launch a strike; the shared struggle and solidarity of Armenian, Greek and Ottoman women lies at the heart of the story.

The arrival of an internationalist journalist in the city and the events surrounding the collection of Ottoman debts serve as the sparks that ignite the strike. Starring Pelin Batu, Nihan Aker, Jaklin Çatal, Tara Demircioğlu, İrem Alnıaçık, Orhan Alkaya and Tansel Öngel, the film also drew attention when audiences organised themselves to arrange screenings in local cinemas.
