The Quick and the Dead (Hızlı ve Ölü)

Directed by Sam Raimi, The Quick and the Dead is a 1995 American revisionist Western starring Sharon Stone as Ellen, a mysterious gunfighter who calls herself 'The Lady' and rides into the frontier town of Redemption. The town is ruled with an iron fist by the ruthless John Herod (Gene Hackman), who stages a deadly quick-draw dueling tournament with a large cash prize, on the sole condition that every entrant obey his rules. Ellen enters the contest to settle accounts for her father's death. Russell Crowe plays Cort, a preacher and former gunslinger who has renounced violence, while Leonardo DiCaprio appears as the ambitious young shooter Kid. Written by Simon Moore with contributions from Joss Whedon, the film was shot at Old Tucson Studios in Arizona and distributed by TriStar Pictures. Released in the United States in February 1995, it disappointed at the box office and drew mixed reviews, but later earned praise for its performances, direction, cinematography and score. It marked Russell Crowe's American film debut and was Woody Strode's final film, to whom it is dedicated.
