İyilik

TV Series · 2022–2023 · 3 people

Running along melodrama and drama lines, the Turkish television series İyilik (Goodness) comes from Medyapım. It tells of a woman whose life looks magnificent and enviable from the outside, until she learns that this picture is an illusion and is forced into a reckoning. It began airing on NOW on 29 April 2022, and Spanish-language audiences know it as Iyilik - Entre el amor y la venganza.

The story centres on Neslihan. While she believes she is living a perfect life, she discovers that the person she trusts most, her husband, has been cheating on her for a long time, and with Damla, who is like a sister to her. With every footing shifting under her, Neslihan has to question right and wrong, good and bad, and stand up again for herself, her family and her children. Hatice Şendil, İsmail Demirci and Sera Kutlubey share the leading roles.

Murat Öztürk directed the series. The first season aired from 29 April to 17 June 2022 and the second began on 9 September 2022. The 27-episode production reached its finale in January 2023.

Through different eyes

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

İyilik's biggest advantage is that it reaches its finale in two seasons and does not overstay its welcome; the sag that hits the middle of shows running to hundreds of episodes is less of a danger here. Betrayal in its most bitter form, a blow from someone treated like a sister, is a strong set-up that should hook viewers from the early episodes. Neslihan getting back up from where she fell also gives fans of character transformation a solid backbone. But betrayal-and-reckoning dramas often get stuck in repetitive confrontations in their second half, and how well the second season avoids that trap is the real question for viewers who know the genre.

History & Society Lens Asks about the period, the social background and what the work reflects.

A life that looks flawless from outside turning out to be an illusion is a familiar theme that questions the gap between an image of prosperity and the real state of relationships. İyilik tells it through a woman's effort to stand on her own feet. That Neslihan must get back up not only for herself but for her family and children puts the weight a collapsing marriage places on a woman in the foreground. The series reaching Spanish-speaking viewers under a title of its own suggests the theme resonates across cultures. Even so, how far its questioning of good and bad can go depends on how closely it sticks to the rules of melodrama.

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

The series is about cheating and betrayal, and the husband's affair is with someone his wife sees as a sister. So it is not suitable for watching with young children. Teenagers can follow the story, but some scenes may feel heavy. Adults who want to talk about trust and family will find plenty in it. One to watch after the children have gone to bed.
