Cage (Kafes) (translated)

Directed by Mahmut Kaptan and written by Lütfü Şehsuvaroğlu, Kafes is a 2015 Turkish political drama that follows the lives of young people subjected to torture in prison during the September 12 military coup era. Told through the lens of neighborhood life, the film traces the clashes between nationalist and revolutionary groups in the 1970s and the coup that followed, reflecting the social and political climate of Turkey at the time.

Starring İsmail Hacıoğlu, Nilay Duru, Şefik Onatoğlu, Fırat Şahin and Tolga Yüce, the film was shot in Ankara's Hamamönü, Hamamarkası and Gölbaşı districts as well as at Ulucanlar Prison. It was released on October 2, 2015, and stayed in theaters for 14 weeks.
