Maigret in Society

Maigret in Society (original French title: Maigret et le mort amoureux) is a 2026 French-Belgian crime drama film written and directed by Pascal Bonitzer. Adapted from Georges Simenon's 1960 novel Maigret et les Vieillards, it was originally developed under the title Maigret et le crime de la rue de Bellechasse. Produced by Saïd Ben Saïd, the film was released in February 2026.

The story sends Commissioner Maigret to the Quai d'Orsay after a renowned former ambassador is found murdered in his home. The diplomat had carried on a fifty-year secret love affair by letter with a princess, whose husband has coincidentally just died. Faced with an uncooperative housekeeper and the members of two families, Maigret investigates among the deceased's circle. Denis Podalydès stars as Maigret, with Irène Jacob and Anne Alvaro also in the cast.
