My Life as a Comedian

My Life as a Comedian (original Swedish title En komikers uppväxt) is a Swedish drama film released in 2019 and directed by Rojda Sekersöz. Adapted from Jonas Gardell's autobiographical novel, the roughly 92-minute picture features dialogue in Swedish along with Finnish and German.

The story follows Juha, now a successful stand-up comedian, as he revisits his boyhood in a small Swedish town during the 1970s. Playing the class clown to win acceptance while quietly clinging to the friends from his neighbourhood, Juha becomes the lens through which the film examines the vulnerability hiding behind laughter.

The cast includes Johan Rheborg, Jakob Eklund, Ulla Skoog, Maria Sid, Klara Zimmergren, Loke Hellberg and Gizem Erdoğan.
