Nesimi (film)

Nesimi is a 1973 Soviet-Azerbaijani historical biopic directed by Hasan Seyidbeyli and produced by the Azerbaijanfilm studio. Dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the birth of Imadaddin Nasimi, the celebrated Azerbaijani poet and philosopher, it portrays his life and creative path. The film was adapted from Isa Mughanna's historical-philosophical novel Mahshar.

Filming took place in Baku, Absheron, Gobustan, Nakhichevan and Shamakhi, and also abroad in Bukhara, Samarkand, Aleppo and Damascus. Rasim Balayev stars in the title role, and his performance in this first major film appearance established him as a prominent actor in Azerbaijani cinema. The picture is regarded as one of the finest historical films made in Soviet-era Azerbaijan.
