Nymphomaniac Director's Cut

Nymphomaniac Director's Cut is Lars von Trier's own approved, extended edit of his two-part film, presented in 2014 in place of the shortened theatrical version and running roughly five and a half hours.

The story opens when Seligman, an elderly bachelor, discovers a beaten woman named Joe lying in a snowy alley and takes her into his home. Joe, who describes herself as a nymphomaniac, spends the night recounting her life to him in a series of chapters, tracing her journey from childhood through her erotic awakening, love, family, loss, and the darker turns of her adulthood, while Seligman responds with his own curious, bookish reflections.

Stacy Martin plays the young Joe and Charlotte Gainsbourg her adult self, with Stellan Skarsgård as Seligman. The ensemble also features Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Christian Slater, Connie Nielsen, Udo Kier, and Jean-Marc Barr. Free of the cuts imposed on the cinema release, this version presents the material as the director originally intended.
