Servet Operasyonu

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre

Movie · 2023 · 14 people

Guy Ritchie directed the 2023 spy action comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, released in Turkey as Servet Operasyonu. It was first announced as Five Eyes. Ritchie wrote it with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies, and Miramax and STXfilms stand behind it. Jason Statham, a long-time Ritchie collaborator, takes the lead in a cast that includes Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, Hugh Grant, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone and Eddie Marsan.

British MI6 agent Orson Fortune (Statham) is sent to retrieve a stolen high-tech weapons device, a serious threat to the world, before a wealthy arms dealer can sell it to the highest bidder. He is hired by the international intelligence alliance Five Eyes and must reluctantly work with CIA tech expert Sarah Fidel (Plaza). To get close to the dealer, Greg Simmonds (Grant), he brings in the Hollywood star Danny Francesco (Hartnett), whom Simmonds admires. The chase takes the team around the world.

Much of the filming took place in Antalya, and Turkish actors such as Kaan Urgancıoğlu and Bestemsu Özdemir appear in the film. Alan Stewart was the cinematographer, and it runs about 114 minutes. It opened in many countries in January 2023, in Turkey on January 13 and in a limited US release on March 3, before streaming on Prime Video. Reviews were mixed.

Through different eyes

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

A spy caper, a stolen weapon, a trip around the world, chases: the right address for anyone who likes pace. Jason Statham plays the agent, with Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett and Hugh Grant in the cast, and most of the shooting was in Antalya. Reviews stayed mixed and the story travels familiar roads, but it is enough for a fun evening.

Cinephile Looks at script, editing and directing choices; keeps a distance from formula films.

A spy action comedy from Guy Ritchie: a star cast, an international mission, a witty team. The problem is how easily this familiarity switches to autopilot. Jason Statham in the lead hints at the ease of a pair who have long worked together, but ease does not always mean daring. The mixed reviews may reflect that. The plan built around a stolen weapon, a wealthy arms dealer and a film star he adores is a fun idea, but despite three writers the script seems to step outside the template very little. The charm of the cast covers up worries about rhythm, but it leaves no lasting mark.

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

Yeşilçam had its own spy and adventure films; this one is a relative arriving in Hollywood's glossy packaging. The appeal of the cast, the shooting in Antalya and the presence of Kaan Urgancıoğlu and Bestemsu Özdemir may please a Turkish viewer. But looking for a story that touches the heart or a moral centre is pointless; it is aiming at entertainment, and that is all. Even for an adventure like this, it would not hurt if a line or a piece of music stayed with you after a scene.
