Kaan Urgancıoğlu — Biography

Kaan Urgancıoğlu was born on 8 May 1981 in İzmir, of Turkish descent on his father's side and Albanian and Syrian on his mother's. After the İzmir Özel Türk Koleji and the American College, he completed his higher education in Marmara University's Capital Markets and Stock Exchange Department, then trained at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York and earned a master's in Film and Drama at Kadir Has University.

While still a student he stepped into acting with the lead role in Karaoğlan, a series adapted from the historical comic strip, and went on to raise his profile in Kampüsistan. Playing Emir Kozcuoğlu in Kara Sevda carried him to more than 110 countries and made the production the first Turkish series to win an International Emmy. His performance as İlgaz Kaya in Yargı earned him the Golden Butterfly Award for Best Actor, and that second series went on to claim the same international prize. He also appeared in Netflix's Aşk 101 and in the 2023 film Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.

Urgancıoğlu married Burcu Denizer in Athens in June 2023 and the couple have a son, Ardıç; more recently, as a WWF-Türkiye Nature Ambassador, he has taken to tracking migratory birds.
