The Old Lady Who Walked in the Sea

Directed by Laurent Heynemann, La Vieille qui marchait dans la mer (The Old Lady Who Walked in the Sea) is a 1991 French-Italian production adapted from Frédéric Dard's 1988 novel of the same name, published under his San Antonio pen name. Blending crime, comedy and drama, the film stars Jeanne Moreau and Michel Serrault. The story revolves around a mysterious elderly woman seen walking in the sea and draws the viewer into a world of seasoned swindlers. Moreau's performance earned her the César Award for Best Actress in 1992. The screenplay was written by Heynemann together with Dominique Roulet. Running about 95 minutes, the film is also notable for bringing together two of French cinema's most experienced performers.
