The Sixth of July

The Sixth of July (Russian: Shestoye iyulya) is a 1968 Soviet black-and-white historical drama directed by Yuli Karasik and produced at the Mosfilm studios. The picture adapts Mikhail Shatrov's stage play of the same title, with Shatrov himself penning the screenplay.

Drawing on genuine historical events, the film depicts the Bolsheviks' suppression of the Left Socialist Revolutionary uprising that erupted in Moscow during the Russian Civil War. It was made to mark the fiftieth anniversary of that episode, and its release was timed to coincide with the centenary of Lenin's birth. The result is a revolutionary-era drama revisiting one of the Civil War's pivotal confrontations.
