Thérèse Desqueyroux (film, 1962)
Thérèse Desqueyroux is a 1962 French drama directed by Georges Franju. The film adapts François Mauriac's 1927 novel of the same name, with a screenplay Franju wrote together with Mauriac himself and his son Claude Mauriac. Emmanuelle Riva and Philippe Noiret take the leading roles, joined in the cast by Sami Frey, Édith Scob, Jacques Monod and Jeanne Pérez. Bringing a landmark piece of French literature to the screen, the picture is remembered as a notable, literature-rooted entry in the French drama cinema of its era.
